NaNoWriMo forever… whenever, wherever!

Writing in a coffee shop
Here's a barrista's-eye view of any coffee shop that offers free wi-fi.
The folks lingering at those tables are writers.

Imagine seeing a dream take the form of a 50,000-word novel. Imagine completing a first draft in thirty days!

Each November, hundreds of thousands of writers take on that challenge. They sign up at NaNoWriMo.org, register their project, then set out to type, scribble, or dictate an average of 1,667 words for thirty days. The National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) has provided structure, community, and encouragement to novelists for over 20 years.

Good news! NaNoWriMo can provide that structure, community, and encouragement 12 months every year! Hundreds of NaNoWriMo projects have crafted into traditionally published novels.

Once you’ve signed up with the .org, you will be brought to a page where can register your project. Associating it with an event such as NaNoWriMo, Camp NaNoWriMo, or other event is optional. It can be a writing or editing project. It can be a short story, screenplay, memoir, poetry, or other form of your choice.

For registered projects, the NaNoWriMo.com Stats page provides a form for inputting daily word counts along with where and when the writing was done. On that page, progress toward the 50,000-word mark (or other goal you’ve set) is displayed in varied line and bar graphs.

Volunteers in over 900 cities organize writing sessions in libraries, coffee shops, theme parks, and other public locations worldwide. These happen year-round, but most often in November.

If working at the elbow of other writers doesn’t appeal to you, there’s no penalty for working alone. Regardless of where you work, the Stats page, Community Forums, and Resources will be online for you, 24 x 7 x 365. Many writers record and track progress on multiple projects, year-round.

The graphs, content-rich forums, and a completion certificate for 50,000 words in November are free. Donations and purchases at an online store support the organization. A writerly selection of stylish shirts, drinkware, and more is available, along with ways to donate one time or monthly.
